Make Windows XP Feel More Like Home For A Mac User

I've switched my main computer at work over to my PC. Not by choice, and my trusty G5 is still close at hand, but now I have to focus on Windows development. In doing so, I found that making a few cosmetic changes and tweaks make it feel a lot more like home.

  1. Change the font used for window titles and menus to verdana. XP has lucida grande, but it's a lot less grand on XP than it is on the Mac. Verdana is a good UI font.

  2. Make the cursor black. The Mouse control panel has a small black preset that is macish.

  3. Use the Silver xp color scheme.

  4. If you write code, get ProFont. Windows has crappy small size monospace fonts. ProFont allows you to see more than 5 lines of code in the little spot in the middle of Dev Studio that still shows code after you open up all of those assinine docked panels.

  5. Mozilla Thunderbird is pretty close to Apple Mail. Unfortunately, I have to use Lotus Notes at work, regardless of PC or Mac.

I'll add more items as I discover them.

Confederate States Of America

Great concept, a few snickers. Bad movie. Edited down to 30 minutes it could be pretty good.

Heart of Gold

Jonathan Demme's Niel Young concert film starts a little slow, with short interview segments with each of the members of the band assembling for the concert. Fortunately this doesn't go on for too long and it gets to the music about where I started to get restless. The show starts with a set of new songs. These songs are more sentimental than most Young tunes. Some of them didn't work for me, but some were moving. About an hour in, he starts to cover some of his classic songs. All of the performances and the quality of the sound recording are top-shelf. This has to be one of the best sounding concert movies ever.

Recommended, highly for Niel fans.

If I made a real, maufactured CD of my music...

would anybody buy it? What do you think?

Night Watch

Night Watch is a Russian gothic thriller. Imagine Buffy The Vampire Slayer meets Highlander meets Lock, Stock and Three Smoking Barrels, all with great art direction. This movie is subtitled, but even those are cool.

Recommended for those who like horror flicks.

Welcome

Here you will learn of my adventures. Some of them will be true. Some will be fictitious. Hopefully you will try to guess which is which and by arriving at the truth, enter a new realm of enlightenment.

Or you'll just be bored out of your mind, but that's likely already if you find yourself reading blogs.
